Further to Sue's excellent advice. I would recommend everyone get a google
mail account and use that as their "public" email address. It has excellent
spam filtering and rules for dealing with email that is not marked as spam -
including forwarding to other email addresses. You can also set auto-reply,
so when it does eventually become compromised, you just start another google
mail account and use the auto-reply to inform any real people that are
trying to contact you of your new address.

The most likely explanation is that a spammer got his email address and used
it to spoof the From address for a large spam transmission. In other words,
it's not a bug. It's a fact of everyday Internet life. Your son should be
reminded to protect his email address vigorously and never reveal it in any
public forum.

My son's Outlook has been suddenly bombarded by literally thousands of
messages saying his email (that was never ever sent in the first
place) has been rejected.
Anyone have a clue as to what kind of a bug this is, and how to deal
with it? Grisoft AVG had no effect.
Thx for any suggestions.
