Please state which mail support mode of Outlook 98 you are using. The KB article you cite may not apply.

Your thread is long dead.
Sorry, like I said I was incapacitated for a while.
So is your Outlook version.
Yes, OL98 still works (or it did) for what functionality I use and
since I can't afford to upgrade it has been my solution.
You'll need to clue us in on what your original issue was.
Here's the short rundown.
First problem started when OL98 would freeze whenever I selected
the calendar folder. The following url seemed to describe my situation
exactly:
http://www.pcreview.co.uk/forums/thread-1810640.php
however I could never successfully implement the suggested solution.
To solve this problem I reinstalled OL98 and then, given my infrequent
need to do this level of operation, I imported my pst rather than
opening it. The calendar fucntion was working again but the current
problem is that when I compose an email message I can no longer type a
name in the to: box and have the correct email address found for that
name in my contact folder. When expanding the to: box none of my
contacts are listed (from shared contacts). In this mode I can select
"Main Identities Contacts" and see one name from an address book I
have with Outlook express on this same machine. Also, my "signature"
is not automatically added to the message body when I start a new
message.
Your suggestion from March 5 was to delete a key in the registry which
would force OL98 to begin a new profile when it was reopened. That was
the process I just tried today without success.
BTW, thanks for responding after my brief illness.
