Hi Brian.
Thank you for attempting to help me. SO, to clear things up a bit here's
the deal.
I'm attempting to consolidate all of my contact information into Microsoft
Outlook. I am able to sync my Palm to Outlook as well as the Palm Desktop
using the software provided with my Palm Zire 72. As it stands right now, I
chose Outlook because Outlook is theoretically able to export to an Excel
file, which is the format I ultimately need to have all of my contacts
consolidated into. Why? I am going to upload it to an FTP server database,
which will be ready in two weeks.
While beginning the process, I've hit several brick walls.
I have synced my Palm with Outlook, but the data doesn't present itself when
I open the program. I searched my computer for the data using the Outlook
extension .pst and found one result with the search. The file size was about
as large as I'd expect it to be given the number of contacts in my palm, but
the icon associated with the file is a non-proprietary icon. What does this
mean??? You know when you have, say, a .jpeg file but the file extension
hasn't been attached to the file name? The icon representing the .jpeg
basically looks like a blank white internet explorer window only tiny? THEN,
when you add the .jpeg etension to the file name and suddenly the icon
changes and you can tell that it is a the .jpeg simply by the icon
appearance? Same with a word doc... Anyway, if I double click on the file
in my search results, a dialogue box opens up and says it doesn't know which
app to use to open the file and asks if I want to search the web to find an
appropriate app or if I want to search a list of available apps on my
computer. I have selected both options in this effort. With the web search,
it tells me to open it with Microsoft Outlook. When I try to go to a list of
available apps on my computer, Microsoft Outlook does not appear. AAAARGH!!!
I've tried searching my computer for the app to no avail.
Having given up on that for the moment, I figured I'd work on something
else. I tried to do the basic importing and exporting to and from Outlook.
I will have to do this alot in the next couple of weeks. Upon attempting to
export, I received an error message saying that the import/export drivers are
not installed and would I like to install them now? I say yes, it says I
need a disk, I insert the disk that I have for Microsoft Office 2000
Professional, and select Outlook to re-install. It does it's thing, and
seems to be installing.
I repeat my exporting effort, and again get the message that my drivers are
not installed.
HELP!!! EVERYTHING I TRY TO DO FAILS!!!
Thanks again :)

I you can't see it when you open Outlook, then yo have not synced the Palm
data with Outlook. What sync program do you use?
I opened Outlook, and there is no data in
there. When I go to open a Personal Folder, it asks me to browse for
the data.
That's normal. If you open Word, for example and try to open a file, it
asks you to browse, too. EVERY program will present a browser window when
you click File>Open. Why do you find this strange?
I searched my computer and found one large PST file (my
palm data, I'm assuming), but there's no Outlook or Palm logo
associated with it.
Nor should there be, ncessarily. Who cares what logo shows up? That
doesn't affect anything.
I try to open it, and it asks me which program
to open it with. Microsoft Outlook is NOT on that list!
You cannot open a PST from WIndows Explorer. You have to start Outlook,
click FIle>Open>Outlook Data File, browse to the PST, select it, and click
OK.
