03 versus 97/2002 version

When I brought my old .pst file into my new OL 2003, it kept the format as
97/2002. Does this slow down or eliminate any functions? Since I don't
sync with another computer, is there an advantage to re do things to 2003
fornmat? If yes, how the heck do ya do it?
thanks
