Hi:
I have the same problem. I've tried a number of fixes that haven't worked,
so perhaps someone reading this will use my experience to come up with an
answer.
1. I closed outlook and reopened it. It reopened but I couldn't open
messages, or at most one message opened. Send and Receive works.
2. I used the detect and repair option under help. It went through the full
cycle but didn't cure the problem.
3 I rebooted both hot and cold i.e. reboot without full shutdown (Cold) and
reboot after full shutdown and sitting for ten minutes( hot). The cold reboot
did nothing and the hot reboot allowed me to open and respond to one or at
most two messages before a terminal freezeup.
4. I ran an anti virus and spyware check and removed offensive spyware, but
nothing changed in Outlook.
5. I removed the inbox folder from the favorites menu and then reinserted
it. Again, nothing improved.
6. I cursed at Microsoft and at my computer and threatened to replace
Outlook if it didn't behave better. That didn't improve things either.

I suspect that we aren't the only two people experiencing this sudden
problem. I wonder if Microsoft made any change in their servers that we have
to respond to with a change in settings. Oh well, perhaps some expert will
have pity on us and respond. I'm also thinking of posting this as a separate
message in the hope of attracting some attention.
best Wishes
