mail messsages "stuck" in Outbox

Does anyone have any clue why my newly crafted messages
are sent to the Outbox under a category called "Date:
None" and are held in this state without any reaction to
the "send/receive" box. The messages will not move
unless I "forward" them to the same recepient.
