Accessing a PST file from a network share is not only not supported by MS but is eventually almost guaranteed to leave the PST file corrupted or locked.
See http://www.outlookcode.com/threads.aspx?forumid=2&messageid=17118 for more information about the setting for archiving, but as that thread mentions the location and settings are different for different versions of Outlook.

Hi,
I want to set a policy, script or registry hack to automatically
program my user's OUTLOOK ARCHIVE location to a network share, but I'm
drawing a blank.
I need it set to X:\OUTLOOK ARCHIVES\%USERNAME%.ARCHIVE.PST
Can anyone point me in the right direction?
Thanks.
.
