NO Anti Virus.
Specifically: Just with Windows running. Problem occurs with initial clean
install of Xp Pro and default Services settings. No anti virus active. No
spyware active, no adware active, no malware active, as many running programs
and services shut off as possible, turning on and or off services to identify
if needed - no effect.
ISP server is not the problem. Cable modem is not the problem. ehternet
cables are not the problem. line voltage is not the problem. Dirty noise on
signals is not the problem. All these things checked out. Even wiped system
and clean installed OS a second time. Still same affect.
I KNOW that outlook 2003 (office 2003) and Xp Pro DO work together. A fellow
tech at work has it working just fine with no problems on his home system.
There is no difference between his or mine.
Does Outlook 2003 require Outlook Express? (web search info says no) Does
outlook 2003 use pop and smtp? (fellow tech says yes) Does outlook 2003 use
IMAP? If so - how to configure for IMAP and also how to check if IMAP is
configured correctly and even if it is turned on. How to turn it off if so. I
have many questions.
This problem has appeared many times in this forum. Aside from the few
obvious answers about Norton and symantec, there has not been any useable or
logical information given as to why this issue occurs, why so many people
have had this problem, how to correct it, and so forth.
I need to correct it.
What services does outlook 2003 in conjunction with Xp pro must be active?
What files are used and or needed in both these programs for outlook 2003 to
function correctly? What file or files could be missing or corrupted? Where
do you get these files if needed? What system or service settings need
checked or configured for proper operation of this combination? What should
the settings in windows firewall be?
I am not being rude, but I am an electronics technician of 20 yrs. I have
worked on everything from simple copiers to multi million dollar navy com
systems. I know how to troubleshoot. I know what processes in windows are
irrelevent to this issue.
What I dont know is how outlook 2003 works. What files it needs to operate.
Its relationship with Xp Pro. I have checked everything I can possible think
of and even tried some things way off base. And I cannot find any useful
relevant information on the internet, or in forums, or with microsoft.
Add to the fact the numerous people having this same problem, leads me to
conclude a common factor involved.
If you can answer the question, please be detailed and specific, providing
file names, relations, settings, locations, uses, associations, where to
download if needed, anything at all related to the issue - so I can
troubleshoot further to locate this problem.

There is obviously a particular option or setting or service or function
required to get Outlook 2003 and Xp Pro to work together correctly. I need
info on this issue. Possibly related to MAPI ?? If you help, I
it. Please be specific and detailed. Dont need to defrag or clean upcookies
or temp files or such. All that done. This problem occurs with a cleanfresh
install of OS. ISP is not issue. Can send receive on email account justfine
with different computer using SAME cable modem. Problem HAS to be withanswers
setup/config of Outlook 2003 and Xp Pro. Please advise on methods and
you have found.
