You disabled/uninstalled the email scanning both in OL and McAfee?
The email scanning feature in both McAfee and Norton can cause similar
problems

I'll try to give as much info as I can about my computer as I can.
It's an older computer, PIII, running Windows XP which is up to date
on the suggested updates and security patches, running Office 2000 SB
which is apparently running all the suggested updates from Microsoft.
Internet is cable. Anti-virus is McAfee 10.
Make sure you disable the email scanning feature.
The problems I have developed in the last two weeks (and aggravating
me totally):
First, when Outlook 2000 opens, a dialogue box opens 'C:\documents &
settings\myname\application data\Microsoft|Addins\' is not a valid
Office add-in.
With Outlook closed, go to the (hidden) folder %UserProfile%\Local
Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook and delete the file
