Thanks Hal, but the problem turned out to be a Trend PC-Cillin mail scan
interference with Outlook 2003. The current work-around is to change the
settings in PC-Cillin from Direct Connection to Home or Office Network. I
understand this does reduce your protection, so is not very satisfactory, but
it works.
