Re: virus check engine reported an error

Tech Tip: Click here to run a free scan for Windows Errors and optimize PC performance

You should be able to do it from Norton's options dialog but for best results, you should uninstall Norton and reinstall it using the custom option and choose not to install it.

I have the same annoying problem that recently cropped up. Maybe it seems
like a basic question, but how do you "disable any integration"? (I have
Norton Internet Security and tried to turn off email scanning but it didn't
help)

Yes. From your AV - disable any integration - it is redundant, causes all
kinds of problems, and is mostly a marketing ploy to increase the amount of
money in the vendor's pockets while decreasing the amount in yours.
