Outlook 2002, actually.

I don't have OL 2002 handy to check for the exact clicks, but try
Tools>Options>Mail Setup and check the "Send immediately when connected"
box. Also set a Send/Receive interval of, say, 10 minutes on
Tools>Options>Mail Setup>Send/Receive>Schedule and automatic send/receive"
