How Can I Reduce Size of pst Files?

I have 2 Gigs of *.pst files in Outlook 2002. I have deleted at least half
of the messages, but the file sizes are unchanged. I have used archive, and
ran it all night. The file sizes went down by 50 meg. This process is
terribly slow. How can it be sped up?
