Can't send mail in Outlook (but can receive it)

I have been trying to configure my mail server to be used in Outlook, but I
keep getting an error message when I try to send messages. I have no problem
receiving mail, but it just won't send. I know my POP3 and SMTP server
addresses are correct, since I have set them up in Outlook Express and have
no problems there. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the account
just in case I made any errors in entering the information, but the results
are the same. I click send, it acts as though it will send and then pops up
a message in my inbox "System - Undeliverable ' Subject Line' ". I have used
the program in the past with no problems. I am running Office 97 Pro, I know
it is an older program, but I am unable to afford an upgrade, and I am
running an older computer that won't accept the size of some of the newer
versions. Can anyone give me any ideas that may help with this? Maybe a
patch from office update? Any ideas would be appreciated.
