Using Word 2003 as editor will not spell check signatures when alt

My signature is basically a small template I use to autoreply. However, when
I add text to this message, it is automatically "marked do not correct
spelling and grammer". I have to Reveal Formatting, select the language
(English US), uncheck the "do not spellcheck" box, save as a default setting,
hit "ok". I have to do this for every email I send out or risk mispelled
words. This is not handy.
