Outlook to Exchange Authentication

What is the best practice for non-domain computers to access their exchange account with outlook? Example - A workgroup computer or home computer through a VPN.
 How can you have outlook auto-login or remember the users credentials so they dont have to enter their user name, password each time they open outlook?
