Hi Mark,
There are a few possible scenarios...I'll address your specific
example.
I. User's local account on laptop expired, he/she changed the password
while NOT connected to the VPN. When they connect to the VPN, they use
their "old" network password, which coincendentally doesn't match the
password assigned to the local laptop account.
- Ensure Outlook is closed/not running.
- Ensure they're domain account is not locked out. Unlock it if need
be.
- The instructions are relative to a Windows 2000, Outlook XP, Cisco
VPN environment.
(1) Have them change their Windows/network password (while connected
to the VPN) to match the local account password. (<ctrl><alt><del>,
Change Password)
(2) As soon as they've successfully changed their password, have they
lock the workstation (<ctrl><alt><del>, Lock Computer).
(3) Unlock the workstation using the newly assigned password. This
will refresh Windows cached passwords.
(4) Launch Outlook, it should now use the most recent password
seamlessly (user shouldn't even be prompted for credentials).
The problem is that Cisco VPN software does not update the Window's
cache area that stores the password used whenever a User logs onto
Windows. This cache is used when accessing secure network resources
such as a User's Outlook account. Locking the computer and then
unlocking it with the new password updates the cache with the correct
password.
Cheers,
V
