I am reading email from my own IMAP server, with Outlook Express 6
running on Windows XP SP1. In one of my accounts, I continually get a
"new mail" icon in the start bar. When I go to the user's overview
icon, it shows that there are 483 messages, with 1 unread, in the
Inbox. When I go to the user's Inbox, however, it only shows 480
messages with 0 unread.

I checked the server and there are 483 messages in the Inbox. As a
test, I installed Eudora 6.1, and it shows 483 messages in the Inbox.
I started comparing messages, 1 for 1. I eventually found a message
that was in Eudora, but not in OE6. The message happened to be from a
user that put an accented character in the From field ("From: Jočl
<x@y.net>", email changed to protect the innocent). The character
also shows in the "X-Original-From:" field.

I tried changing the Default characterset, but nothing seems to let
this mail come in. I tried:

  Western European (Windows)
  Western European (ISO)
  Central European (Windows)
  Central European (ISO)
  Latin 9 (ISO)
  US-ASCII
  Unicode (UTF-7)
  Unicode (UTF-8)

I have searched the newsgroups extensively for help with this issue,
so please forgive me if I missed something. Does anyone out there
know of any related issues with this? Do I need to log a
trouble-ticket with Microsoft to get this looked at?

Thanks,
Michael English
