Hi Cosmo
I didn't know about the rtf thing - I always set up my slides first then use
Insert -> slides from outline (2003) or Home tab -> new slide drop down ->
slides from outline. I believe there is a command in Word too but can't
remember what it is.

If your word document uses styles, you can save the document in .rtf
format,
and PPT will recognize the styles. I have always used the predefined
'Header
1, Header 2, etc.' styles - Each Header 1 paragraph will start a new slide
and be placed in the title placeholder, Header 2 will be the first level
indent in the text placeholder, Header 3 will be the 2nd level indent, and
so
on.
After setting up the styles, save as .rtf and open the file with PPT,
apply
the appropriate design template, and you should be good.
