Re: Convert PPT 2000 presentation to PPT 2002?

(but if I do Format>Slide Design and select the
SAME slide design in PPT 2002, that problem is fixed).

It might be possible to automate this. Open one of the problem
files, start the Macro
Recorder then do the Format, Slide Design, etc. manually once. Stop
the recorder,
press
Alt+F11 to see what it recorded.

Yes, but I figure that, the fact that I need to reformat the slides to
the SAME design
background tells me that PPT2002 is changing *something* from the
original PPT2000
formatting. I kinda see that as evidence of a formatting difference
between the two
versions.

OK, I misunderstood something you wrote (my mistake, not yours).
Applying the design only fixes the black b/g problem, not the animations.
Got it. And that does make it less Twilight-Zone-ish.

You may be stuck re the animations ... if the flash conversion programs
only look at the new animation methods (introduced in 2002) they likely
won't even see your existing ones. PPT itself has the necessary
compatibility code built in but evidently the other apps don't. Bummer.

Might be time to investigate the Camtasia option. That'll record
whatever PPT will play.

[later] Just saw your reply to Ute.

Camtasia doesn't need a player as such ... it saves in several formats
for which there are existing players (Flash for example).

I haven't looked into whether it's able to generate SCORM content;
perhaps not. But movies saved from PPT might be incorporated into web
pages from another source that *does* generate SCORM-compliant content.

Oh, and have you tried Articulate to do the conversions? If not, I'd
look into their products as well.

Move to another slide, run the macro on it, convert to flash. Did
that work?

Thanks, Stave, I can reformat the background of the entire presentation
- that solves
the black background conversion problem. It's the shapes and animations
that are now
cause for concern.
