Using a laptop yes.
Where is the setting that needs to be adjusted, in the adaptor software
settings ? or desktop display settings

You probably are using a lower resolution for the projector. Is the
computer
a laptop? It sounds like the display panel is not scaling resolutions
lower
than the native resolution. Desktop or laptop, this is an adjustment in
the
advanced driver for the video card/chip. Look for Flat Panel Scaling and
you
want it to be on or expand the image when necessary.
