Re: Flash file in PPT 2007

P.S. I checked the properties in the old slide with the flash animation,
and it DOES say Embed: True - so you were exactly right about what's
happening ... so, is there any way to "unembed" the flash file and save it
as a separate swf file ....?

thanks again,
paul

thanks Steve - a BIG part of the problem is that I don't seem to have the
original flash file ... that's why I was searching that path for the file
name ... it doesn't exist on my system as a separate file. Is there any
way to "un-embed" the flash file from the older PPT slide and save it as a
flash file ....?

thanks,

I am running PowerPoint 2007 (urp). I have a slide from a presentation
created with an earlier version that has a flash movie in it. Of course, it
always worked fine in the earlier version without any special set up. If I
copy the slide into PPT 2007, the animation also runs fine – in Compatibility
Mode. If I save the file as a .pptx 2007 format, it won’t play, and I just
see a blank slide with a big X drawn across it in Normal View. I went
through the help system to add a flash file to the slide but nothing works.

Here’s the curious thing. In the original slide, under Flash Properties, it
shows the following path to the movie file:
C:\Documents and Settings\advmed\Desktop\PC_SWFs\Pangaea.swf

BUT, when I do a search (even with hidden, non-indexed, system files, etc.
included) there are no folders called “advmed” or “PC_SWFs”, OR a file called
“Pangaea.swf” on my system.

Even when I cut and paste this path from the older slide into the pptx
slide’s Flash Properties “Movie” cell, it still won’t run.

What is going on …..? ANY help will be appreciated.

Here's a guess that might help:

Earlier versions of PPT were able to work with the Flash control to allow
embedding the flash file in the PPT. The control may be telling you where the
SWF came from originally but it's probably embedded in the PPT.

2007 and the current Flash control are incompatible in that PPT2007 can't embed
flash movies. With luck, an update to the flash control may fix this.

Question: what if you put a copy of the SWF where PPT2007 can find it, insert
it, but set the Embed property to False (assuming it's True now)?
