I am using windows 2007, ppt viewer 2003. When I right click on any of the
ppt files already in my folder, it allows me to "open with.... powerpoint
2007" but this does not happen when I try to open a ppt file attached to an
email. When I right click the mouse in this case, it only shows "open" with
no other option of application to open it with.
Thanks.

Which version of Windows are you using? Also which version of PowerPoint?
When you right click on a .ppt file in your folder what does the first
line
say, Show or Open? Half way down that list in It should say Open With.
what
does it say in your case?

Hi Mike:
Thanks for your posting. Your suggestion works only if I already have the
files saved somewhere in my folder. However, I experience the same
annoying
ppt viewer launching a ppt file when I try to open the filel from an
email.
The file does not open as a regular ppt file, but opens it in ppt viewer.
It
does not work if I right click and then open in normal ppt, as that option
does not exist when opening from an email.
Please would you have any ideas as to prevent email ppt files from opening
in viewer because it is not convenient when I first have to save all email
ppt files to a folder and then again resorting to the right click option
you
suggested to open each file. This only started mysteriously a couple of
months ago.
Thanks.

You need to change the File Association for .ppt/.pps files as mentioned
in
my previous post. Make sure that when you have made any changes
checkmark
to
use this program for these files at all times.

Michael, why is this happening in the first place, all of a sudden
(files
are
saved under Viewer, vs. normal Powerpoint) How can one disable files
being
saved as Powerpoint Viewer?

You would have to look in your folder where you store your PowerPoint
presentations look for anything with a .ppt extension, then right
click
on
it.

Under explorer I can only see powerPoint viewer and no powerpoint
presentation to right click at.

In Explorer, right click on the PowerPoint presentation and under
Properties
make sure that Opens with: says Microsoft Office PowerPoint and not
Microsoft Office PowerPoint Viewer.

After using my paid version of office for 18th months, powerpoint
suddenly
switched into viewer only mode for my more recent files. Any
thoughts?
Thanks
