Actually..I have used the crop tool on an inserted Visio object in PP2003
and PP97. In fact, I double checked again today to make sure I wasn't
misremembering. It works in those versions of PP. Try it.

I don't have Visio installed, but maybe we can hum a few bars and fake it ...

How did you get the Visio object into PPT?

Peace

thanks Steve for continuing to search for a solution.

I am surprised and a rather dismayed to find cropping objects in ppt2007 not
possible.

Perhaps I need to consider this a trade-off for other gains.

Yahbut ... you can't trade off what you never had. ;-)
PPT's never been able to crop objects, just images.

Object editability is a big deal in our case. A transparent background
picture just isn't really the solution.

That's a problem then ... you're talking about a vector graphic (ie one composed
of lines, shapes, etc). PPT can't crop them, only raster (ie, image) graphics.

One alternate approach you could try though:

Draw rectangles that cover up the area of the graphic you want to crop, then give
the rectangles no outline and set the fill to Background. You can't do this from
the paintbucket tool on the drawing toolbar for some odd reason. Instead,
doubleclick the rectangle to bring up the formatting dialog. "Background"
appears there as one of the fill color options.

thanks Steve for trying,.

Does anyone know how you can crop an inserted object (Visio in my case) in
PP2007?

Try this:

Ctrl+C to copy it while it's selected

Then Paste, choose Paste Special and select PNG as the paste type.

Now it's a PNG image, which will crop like any other image.
