Re: PowerPoint 2000 won't respond after incident

I am really confused here.

wife had a colleague send her a PP file via e-mail. Unexplicably, he
also seemed to have attached a Microsoft Office 2007 Student Edition
along with the file.

I don't know how someone could attach Office to an email. What you're saying
is that someone emailed the Office installation file -- an EXE file -- to
your wife. That file would be many many megs large, and I cannot imagine
anything letting you email a file so huge. We're talking like 500 MB or
something.

(I'm really not just trying to point out errors -- I'm honestly just
confused and trying to work my way through this. Bear with me, please!)

Can you tell us the names of the files the colleague attached?

qualifies as a student). Anyway, the Student Edition tried to load on
my machine and wanted the required code number to load. It kept on
coming up everytime my wanted to load the file she wanted.

But this is weird, and it does sound as if you tried to install Office 2007,
or it's trying to install every time you try to open a PowerPoint 2007 file?
Is that it?

I also found that I could uninstall
the program from the Control Panel.

After, I did this, I found that our current version of PowerPoint
(which comes from Office 2000) will not load. It says "Microsoft
PowerPoint is not Responding". I found that if we try to load a PP
file directly from my wife's file of PP files in MS Explore, it will
open.

So here, I read that you uninstalled Office 2007, but now PowerPoint 2000
won't start.

But it does start some times. I think you're saying that if you double-click
a PowerPoint file in Windows Explorer, PowerPoint 2000 will start. If you go
to Start | Programs and try to start PowerPoint 2000, you get an error
message, "PowerPoint is not responding." Is that correct?

Oh, you know, that sparks a vague memory. I wonder if you clear out the MRU
(most recently used) files list, if that will resolve the issue.

I am running PP2000 on a new Vista Operating system. Recently, my
wife had a colleague send her a PP file via e-mail. Unexplicably, he
also seemed to have attached a Microsoft Office 2007 Student Edition
along with the file. (Apparently, he is taking classes somewhere and
qualifies as a student). Anyway, the Student Edition tried to load on
my machine and wanted the required code number to load. It kept on
coming up everytime my wanted to load the file she wanted. I
suggested that she delete all of the files she received from the
offending e-mail, which she did. I also found that I could uninstall
the program from the Control Panel.

After, I did this, I found that our current version of PowerPoint
(which comes from Office 2000) will not load. It says "Microsoft
PowerPoint is not Responding". I found that if we try to load a PP
file directly from my wife's file of PP files in MS Explore, it will
open. I tried removing Office 2000 and reloading. No improvement,
the problem still exists. I need a few suggestion of what to do or
where to go for further help.

Thanks, Al
