Re: Embedded audio clips won't run concurrently as WAV?

To put it simply: If the MP3 file is the underlying audio, you can run
another MP3 or a WAV file on top of it without interrupting the MP3. It will
continue to play even after the shorter one stops. If you reverse it and put
the WAV as they underlying audio, either an MP3 or a WAV will stop the
underlying file once they play.
Since you cannot (as far as I or anyone else knows ) embed an MP3 file.
Their lies the rub.

Doug,

Assuming you are running Windows XP, you need to make certain that your
audio card is using a WDM driver. If not visit the manufactures web site
and see if one is available. Also make certain you have the latest version
of DirectX.

*Most* newer audio cards allow mixing of audio signals but by no means not
all of them.

I have a PowerPoint presentation with about 82 slides. It is set up as a
PPS
file to run on its own with the different slides while playing various
background music and audio clips. Here's where my problem comes in....
I want the audio files embedded in the program so I can send it to others
in
e-mail. MP3 files will not embed, only link. This is not what I want. I
converted my MP3 files to WAV files with a program called CDEX. This
program
actually just places a header on the MP3 file and changes the extension to
WAV. In other words, it's all the same.

Once I converted all my MP3 files, they embedded perfectly in my
presentation. Then I ran into the problem. With linked MP3 files, I
could
start a music file on slide 7 and have it run for 21 slides. On any of
the
slides in this range, I could add an additional audio clip that might run
2-5
seconds. The "underlying" music file would continue to play in the
background and after the short "voiceover" had stopped. This is exactly
what
I wanted.

Once I embedded all the WAV files, whenever a "voiceover" audio clip would
start, the "underlying" music file would stop and not continue. Does
anyone
know a way to remedy this problem? From the expert help I have received
so
far, WAV files don't seem to run concurrently. When a second one starts,
the
first one stops. MP3 files will run concurrently, but they will not all
embed.

Any suggestions?

Thanks -- Doug
