Sorry for not answering you any sooner, I have been away for a while.
Answering your direct question to me: I haven't used any add-inns. It was PP
2000 with all current service packs. I used Insert -> movies and sounds->
movie from file. Used .avi, .mpg and .wmv files. The critical point is that,
as I said, the 'insert' command does not insert anything. It just tells PP
where your movie file is. To avoid probles one should have both the
presentation .ppt and the movie files in same folder and make sure the
recepient also has them both in the same folder. That takes care of the
basics.
On top of that there is a whole slough of issues with coding as Austin
wrote. One has to make sure that on the client machine (the recipient) the
codex used for coding your movie is installed. The problem is that when you
use a software to make your .avi file, it is usually difficult if not
impossible to find out exactly which of the many codices out there is being
used. I have recently had a lecture at a conference, made efforts to make
sure everything goes well and still run into a minor problem at the end.
Perhaps using Austin's add-inn is the only solution, but I have never tested
it.
