RED X in office programs

I am working with Office 2003 in a networked XP environment and many of the
presentations, documents sent to me from others have the images embedded in
them that do not display in my profile. Everyone else can see them. I have
updated Office with the latest updates and it does not fix the problem. Will
removing my profile and creating another help? If so how can I do it safely?
