Footer doesn't appear, no matter what

Tech-Archive recommends: Fix windows errors by optimizing your registry

I have a template in PPT 2000. When I try to add a footer, it simply does
NOT show up. I've tried by adding a text box, I've looked to see if it slid
off my slide master, nothing is working. I noted in a search of this group
others have had this problem, but there hasn't been a clear-cut solution.
If anyone has a fix for this I would appreciate it. I'm under a tight
deadline and I'm starting to lose hope.
