Over-written / lost presentation

Hi all,
I over-wrote my presentation (slides.ppt) when trying to compress it
from the command line; I accidentally inverted the flags of the 'tar'
command from a terminal window, like so:
> tar -cvzf slides.ppt slides.tgz
I am using os x/3.7 and powerpoint v.X. I remember there were a lot
of auto-saves going on, while I was working on my slides. My problem
is that I seem not to be able to find any of the powerpoint temporary
files! I looked into /Library/Preferences and /System/... without any
success.
Could anyone please direct me towards a location where I can find
remains of slides.ppt? I looked at
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=188898 and at other stuff on the FAQ
(both MAC and XP) without finding any hint to that ...
Regards
Edo
