hi there
answers to your questions
1. inserting files through following methods:
* insert audio from file or insert video from file
i also use insert object, then click insert clip, video for windows and select the file - i have experimented with all these and succeeded with different file extensions
i recently inserted a Vegas file - audio - and that is when my troubles started, the audio file plays (wav) but none of the video files that used to play would play any more, that is also when all the "shut down programme and found an error it can not corect" started. i deleted the audio file but it still does not help.

2. windows 2000 and powerpoint 2000
3. inserted MCI through regedit as per article on sonia's site
4. codecs - tested mplay32.exe to play a file (movie clip) that previosly played - it gives me the message "... has encountered a problem and will shut down, an error log is being created" - the same message that i get when trying to play/insert a file in ppoint
i tried the same procedure with a wma (audio) file and it played.
5. encountered problem occurs when i try to insert any kind of file in new powerpoint presentation, also when i open the presentation that i was working on - powerpiont won't allow me to open the file at all, i can access it through my windows explorer though but when i try to do anything with media files i get the problem message.

thanks for your help
