The photo album does some tricky image insertion by adding your images as
the background to Autoshapes, which can't be cropped. You will have to "Cut"
your images and paste them back as an images, say as png to be able to crop
them.
Now, while there are distinct advantages to adding images to Autoshapes, but
being unable to crop them is a downside.
