Animated .gif keeps looping in Powerpoint 2000

I inserted an animated .gif with stops in Powerpoint 2000 slide but it keeps looping. I checked the .gif with the designer and set it not to loop in Powerpoint but still no luck. It should run once abut keeps on going? Suggestions?
