Re: If you can't tell me how to update MSO 2003, can you tell me..

I did not see that error message. Patch could not be applied is all I've
seen. Nevertheless, I followed that KB article anyway, with no success.
Another KB article showed me where to look in the log files for errors, all
errors were "Expecting patch XXXXXXXXXXXXXXX, patch not found." There was no
clue what the missing patches are, or where I could find them.

Please, TaurArian, at this point, all I want to do is remove the update
notification from my PC, and I will never try to update MSO2003 again.

If you're starting a new thread, put all the information in that thread.
Don't expect us to go looking just in case you have previously posted the
problem before.

Did you see:

I provided all information here:

http://www.microsoft.com/communities/newsgroups/en-us/default.aspx?dg=microsoft.public.officeupdate&cat=en_US_b35cf85a-a8a4-4c3f-ada9-fb3986d25469&lang=en&cr=US&wa=wsignin1.0

I've done several uninstall-reinstalls, tried with the CD in, Changed
Office
11.0 to old11 in the registry and reinstalled/repaired, read as much as I
could find in the Knowledge Base, and read several of the pages here.

I note that several people here have the same problem, and no cure has
been
presented. I'm willing to say "To hell with it," but XP INSISTS that I
must
upgrade, then REFUSES to do so. "Patch cannot be installed." Error 1635,
or
0x80070663, depending on where I look.

All I am trying to do now is remove the yellow "updates are ready for your
computer" shield from the system tray, with the corrosponding attempt to
install on shut down.

Depends upon the problem, you haven't provided any information at all for
example any error messages.

You cannot install an Office 2003 service pack

or

Office Update Web site

Perhaps it's as simple as putting the Office CD in the installation drive
before trying to update the program or in the alternative, perhaps you
could
download the full file and manually install the same.

Perhaps you need to do a repair install or in the alternative, uninstall
and
reinstall (don't forget to have your product key handy).

I'm only guessing and making assumptions, so feel free to ignore this
posting if it isn't related and perhaps someone else may be able to make
a
more accurate guess.

How the heck to get rid of the system tray nag? I'm not afraid to edit
the
registry, if I can only find where this monster is hiding!
