office 11.5.0 for mac office 2004 still won't convert docx files

Have updated my Office for Mac 2004 to version 11.5.0, which supposedly will
convert docx files to be readable for me. But they still aren't and every
time I try to open one, Word asks me to go online and download the update
again. What's going on and how can I fix this?
