Re: problems with security updates

Tech-Archive recommends: Speed Up your PC by fixing your registry

Hi,
I have the same problem and followed your advice to the letter. Seemed to
re-install/repair ok but afterwards, still failed when trying to get the
updates.
I too have tried the Detect and Repair etc.
Any further advice?
Thanks.

If not, credit goes to Peter Foldes for this suggestion, which has worked
for many people:

1st Rename Office subkeys

Note: Removing the following registry keys may reset customized user
settings for your Microsoft Office programs.

1. Close all the applications.
2. Click on Start->Run, type in REGEDIT and click on OK.
3. Locate and select the following registry subkeys:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\11.0
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Office\11.0

4. Right click on 11.0 and rename them to Old11.
5. Close the Registry Editor.

2nd. Detect and Repair Office 2003

1. On the Windows taskbar, click Start, point to and click Control Panel.
2. Double-click Add/Remove Programs.
3. Click Change/Remove Programs on the left pane.
4. Highlight Microsoft Office Professional Edition 2003 on the right pane
and click Change.
5. Insert the correct version of CD when it requires.
6. Select "Reinstall and Repair" and click Next.
7. Select "Detect and Repair errors in my Office installation".
8. Click Install and wait the process to end.

3rd. Install the Updates

I now have problems installing these security updates, and I think I've
caught a nasty as a result.... Download works fine, but installation fails
every time, no matter how I try.
PLEASE, can anyone point me in the right direction? I've tried some of the
suggested solutions I've found to no avail. I don't know if it is
connected,
but when I start up, I get an error message that reads;
'The procedure entry point GetProcessImageFileNameW could not be located
in
the dynamic link library PSAPI.DLL' I tend to click ok but what does it
mean?
I don't mind a bit of delving, but would prefer to download a patch,
rather
than reinstalling the whole blimmin' program!
Here they are;
Security Update for Word 2003 (KB923094)
Security Update for Excel 2003 (KB923088)
Security Update for Publisher 2003 (KB894542)
Update for Office 2003 (KB923097)
Security Update for Office 2003 (KB914455)
Security Update for Office 2003 (KB923272)
Security Update for PowerPoint 2003 (KB923091)
Update for Outlook Junk Email Filter 2003 (KB923095)

Thank you in anticipation.

Paul
