1. Why would anyone recommend a BETA that is due to end in 2 weeks?
2. If you use Office 2003 apps and Office 2007 apps interchangeably, this is the normal behavior. Each version needs to reconfigure the ..dlls it uses for its functions. When you switch to another version of the same app, the same thing applies. One reason Microsoft discourages people from running 2 or more versions on the same machine.

After furious head scratching, Jo asked:
