Re: KB907417? Excel 2003, Word 2003, Internet Explorer Crashes

See http://support.microsoft.com/kb/918165 "Problems in Windows Explorer or the Windows shell after you install security update MS06-015".

If you aren't comfortable with editing the Windows registry yourself, then go to http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm and scroll
down to Item No. 383 "Hewlett-Packard's Share-to-Web software - Fix". Download and run the script to automatically modify your registry as described in KB918165. You may need to temporarily disable your antivirus program in order to run the script.

A revised version of the MS06-015 update was released today that supposedly interacts better with the older HP and nVidia software. You can download the revised update from http://www.microsoft.com/technet/security/bulletin/ms06-015.mspx .

Confused Office Update User wrote:

I am running Microsoft Office Small Business Edition 2003. Everything was working fine until I loaded the critical Microsoft Office update, KB907417, OTKLOADR.DLL. (It was loaded with a c couple other updates as well, but this is the only one that I could find info on it being messed up.) ANyway, after installing this critical issue, I now find that Excel 2003 and Word 2003 crash when trying to close out and save each program. I also am experiencing problems with the "CTRL O" window in Internet Explorer. When typing in a specifc web site address and hitting return, Internet Explorer also crashes. I do not have Visual Studio Tools installed on my computer. It seems strange to me that Microsoft would release an update when they are aware that this new update, KB907417 has issues. I have went through and completely reformatted my hard drive thinking that I had a virus, when in fact it was a Microsoft Update that caused my issue. I tired to follow the directions to delete this update, but the Add/Remove Programs in Control Panel does not allow me to uninstall the update. I have tried to uninstall Microsoft Office Small Business Edition 2003, but the saving/crashing problem still exists when I reload the program back onto my computer, even before installing the KB907417 update .Microsoft has listed the resolution to the problem as "recommending that you do not use code that closes an Office document or spread*** from a WINFORM control in a Visual Studio Tools for Office System version 2003 solution." But this does not tell me how to fix the problem without having to reformat my hard drive and spend 3 days reinstalling all my computer programs. Any help would be appreciated??? Also, is Microsoft working on a final resolution to this problem??? By the way, I do have HP Share to WEb and and Nvidia graphics card on board my computer. I looked at the recent thread, but could not find the I had installed the MS 06-015 update mentioned as the culprit in that scenario.
