Hi, Jason,
With credit to Hugo Lopez of Microsoft:
The problem you are encountering is probably due to the Local
Installation Source introduced with Office 2003. The local cache is
supposed to avoid source media requests by caching cab files containing the
product files on the local drive. This means that when an update is applied
and the source is needed the cache is used instead of prompting the user for
the source media. This works great until the cache folder somehow becomes
corrupted and a cab file cannot be found. This causes a request for source
to copy the necessary cab files down to the local installation cache in
order for the update installation to continue.
In your case the SKU011.cab file should reside in the Office 2003
Professional CD. Please ensure that your CD contains PRO11.MSI. If it
doesn't contain the PRO11.MSI then the wrong media is being used and the
needed file won't be on the CD. Please ensure that your CD contains
PRO11.MSI in it and double-check for SKU011.cab after showing hidden/system
files.
