There should be the ability for users to have the option to have office
products automatically updated similiar to the automatic updates in Windows
XP.

This should be optional setting on the system. I support several systems
both at home and at work, I would want to be able to enable this feature on
systems that I support within my family since they are basically computer
illeterate, but would not want this to be enabled for corporate systems until
the updates were properly tested in the corporate environment.

This should not only include security updates, but features such as junk
email filters and other types of updates to office products.
