Internet explorer crashes when opening office document

I have recently installed Service pack 3 for Office XP. Now when I try to
open any office document from my sharepoint portal Internet explorer crashes.

This is the information from the event viewer.

Faulting application iexplore.exe, version 6.0.2800.1106, faulting module
mso.dll, version 11.0.5606.0, fault address 0x0001f01b.

Has anybody experienced this behaviour?

Btw: I need service pack 3 because it is supposed to fix a problem with
links in excel to other excel files on a secured web site.
