In order to better troubleshoot this issue I would like to obtain verbose
log files that track what happened duirng your installation attemp. The
following article is for Office 2000 but it contains information on how to
enable verbose logging in the registry(see section titled "Maintenance Mode
or Install on First Use Logging"). Please enable logging and attempt to
apply the update. The log file will help us better troubleshoot this issue.
