We have a new Setup feature in Office 2003 called the Local Install Source.
If the hard disk with the most free space, has more that 2.0 GB of free
space, all of the CAB files are copied to this location on the local hard
drive. If the free space is between 1.5-2.0 GB, only those CAB files needed
for the installed components are copied. If the free space is under 1.5 GB,
no CAB files are copied. We chose those thresholds to minimize the chance
of getting into a low disk space situation. The benefits of doing this are
that you should not need to insert the CD when installing a patch or when
installing additional components. In your case it appears that your
installation files were only partially cached.

For more information about this feature, see
