Tech Tip: Click here to run a free scan for Windows Errors and optimize PC performance

I followed this procedure, but still get the message that the file is
corrupt and to reinstall Outlook. What's the procedure for doing the
overall repair?

With all e-mail enabled applications closed and assuming an english
system, try renaming MSMAPI32.DLL to MSMAPI32.DLL.OLD under \program
files\common files\system\msmapi\1033. The next time you start Outlook,
the installer should kick off and bring in the last known good version of
this file from the MSOCache folder which is at the root of one your hard
drives.

I use Office 2003. I began to upgrade PowerPoint 2003 to PowerPoint 2007,
but canceled the operation midway through the initial phase. The progress
bar reversed direction, and after several minutes Office Setup reported
that the setup had been successfully canceled.

However, immediately afterward, and continuing forward I noted a
peculiarity in starting up the 2003 versions of Excel, Word and
PowerPoint.

These three programs open with the usual splash screen. But then for a
fraction of a second I see a message that Windows Installer is starting.
The message flashes then disappears, and Excel and Word load normally.

This doesn't occur with starting up Access 2003 nor Publisher 2003. I
also have OneNote 2007 installed, and it seems unaffected as well

But Outlook 2003 is worse. Starting it produces this error message.

Cannot start MS Outlook. MAPI32.DLL is corrupt or the wrong version .
Please reinstall Outlook.

I assume I should run the "detect and repair", but need guidance. When I
started that service Office asked for the installation source. I assume
that means the original 2003 CD's. But of course there have been various
Office Updated over the past six years.

So please advise. It's not an emergency, since the only programs of
these which I currently use are Excel, Word and OneNote.
