Re: Office2007 fails to start

Tech-Archive recommends: Fix windows errors by optimizing your registry

I would suspect that the tech did not do the job correctly.
If someone has been 'fiddling' with your system its impossible to give a
finite answer as how you could rectify the problem, without knowing what
exactly they did.
Personnally I would format & clean reinstall, but then you may not be
comfortable in doing that yourself, though it is a simple process

I think the tech did not reformat. That's beyond my job code. c:-program
files was 'shredded', as was the registry - according to the tech who put
the
OS back together.

I reinstalled applications from the disks.

Did you reformat your system when you reinstalled the OS?

Thanks for responding.

Sorry that I failed to mention that I did remove Office 2000, using
start ->
add-remove programs ... . And yes, I do have the disks for Office
2000 -
and
used them in its installation. Office 2000 worked for several years
before
the virus attack/OS Reinstall in March of 2007. Office 2000 was
removed
before the first install of Office 2007 - and 2000 has NOT been
reinstalled.
Could there be a 'residue' of 2000 files that the unistaller did not
remove?
Or might there be orphan entries in the Registry?

As for the Office 2007, I did remove each 'install' before trying the
next
thing (the post does specify that).

The downloaded trial versiion of 2007 has not yet been removed
because -
as
you suggest - It might contain some 'special tricks' to ensure that it
stops
working when the trial period is over. That it, it may require a
custom
deletion of some sort.

So what do I do about it?

You are going to have to uninstall all versions of Office to get
anything
to
work properly. Downloading the trial is only going to cause other
issues,
especially when it expires.

As for Office 2000, I suspect the reason it didn't work after the
Windows
reinstall is because you didn't reinstall it from the disks.

Received Office Home and Student as a Christmas gift.

The install progressed without any problems.
But none of the applications (Word, Excel, Powerpoint, OneNote)
wiil
open.
That is, start -> all programs -> microsoft office -> Word ->
"click"
starts
the little arrow on the desktop. After perhaps 5 seconds, the arrow
disappears.

I have been through this process 3 or 4 times with the same result
(using
'add/remove programs' to remove the previous install each time).

Went to the Microsoft website and downloaded the free 60-day trial
of
Office
2007. That behaves exactly as the purchased cd. Programs do not
function
(eliminates faulty media as a cause I think).

My system has capability that exceeds those listed on the package.
Windows
XP has the latest (automatic) updates and SP.

One more thing: Prior to Feb, 2007 I was using Office 2000. Had a
virus
attack then - XP was reinstalled. From that point, Office 2000 was
unusable
- opening an application caused the error "This program must be
installed
to
run ...". Haven't been able to get that one fixed. Could that
relate
to
the
problem with Office 2007?

Thanks for any help!
