Re: Office 2007 Setup Successful - but Office won't run

Hi Ian,

Thanks for resending the email.

I understand that you have reinstalled Office 2007 under Windows clean boot mode and rename the file OPA12.dat. However, the issue
persists. If I misunderstood, let me know.

Does the current user have Administrator rights on the computer? If not, assign administrator rights to the user account and repair
Office 2007. Test the issue again. What is the result? Return the user account back to the original rights. Test the issue again.

If it doesn't work, check the following permissions.

#1 check permissions for the Office registry key.
==============
1. Click Start > type regedit, press ENTER.
2. Locate the entry:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Office\12.0
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Office\12.0

3. Right click it and choose Permissions.
4. Check Full Control for the group (Adminitrators, Users, System).
5. Exit regedit.
6. Repair Office 2007. Test the issue again.

#2 check the permissions for the Office folder
==============
1. Go to the folder C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\OFFICE\DATA\.
2. Right click the file OPA12.dat > choose Properties > in the Security tab, assign Full Control permission to the group - Everyone
and System.

Test the issue again.

If anything is unclear or if you have any other concerns, please don't hesitate to contact me.

Hi Emily,

I have emailed you the diagnostics you requested, because I have tried your
steps as they unfortunately did not solve the issue.

Thanks

Hi Ian,

** collect information**

1. collect the Event Log with the steps below:
---------------------
a. Click "Start", click "Run", input "eventvwr" (without quotation marks) and press Enter.
b. Right click on "Application" on the left frame, choose "Save Log file As", navigate to the Desktop, input "app" in the "File name"
blank,
and then click save.
c. Right click on "System", with the same method, save it as "sys".
d. Locate the two saved log files on the Desktop and send them to me at v-emilin@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx

2. Send the Office 2007 setup log file to me at v-emilin@xxxxxxxxxxxxx for further research.
------------------------------
a. Click Start menu-> Run, type "%Temp%" (without the quotation marks) in the Open box and press Enter.
b. Find the file "Microsoft Office 2007 SetupExe(****).log" in the folder. **** means the number.
c. Send this file as an attachment to me.

** Suggestion **

Based on my experience, this issue is mostly caused that there is problem with the Office 2007 registration/activation on the
computer.
Follow the steps below to see if it works.

Step 1: Install the latest version of Windows Installer
===============
Download and install the latest version of the Windows Installer (Instmsiw.exe) from the following link.
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=889482FC-5F56-4A38-B838-DE776FD4138C&displaylang=en

Step 2: Go to Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs to uninstall Office 2007

Step 3: Come into Windows Clean Boot Mode to reinstall Office 2007
=================================
It will disable all third party software from loading at startup so that we can narrow down if the issue is related to the third party
software.

1. Click Start menu-> Run, type "msconfig" (without the quotation marks) in the Open box and press Enter.
2. On the General tab, choose Selective Startup; click to clear the "Process System.ini File", "Process WIn.ini File", "Load System
Services" and "Load Startup Items" check boxes. You cannot clear the "Use Original Boot.ini" radio button.
Note: You can click the Normal Startup radio button to return to the normal Windows Startup after the test.

3. Click the "Services" tab. Check "Hide all microsoft services", click disable all. If the "disable all" is not available, please just skip it.
4. Click the "Startup" tab, click "disable all". If the "disable all" is not available, please just skip it.

5. Click OK.
6. Restart the computer. Install Office 2007.

Try to run Word 2007 again. What is the result?

In case that the issue persists, go to the folder C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Microsoft\Office\Data\, delete
the file Opa12.dat. Restart Office 2007. What is the result?

Hi,

I installed Office 2007 Enterprise and after the install when trying to run
any application I got the error "Microsoft Office [Word/Excel/Outlook] has
not been installed for the current user. Please run setup to install the
application".

No matter what I did, I couldn't get any application to run.

So I uninstalled office and followed KB928218 but this has not corrected the
issue, Office refuses to run.

I am using Windows Vista and the following Event 1001 is raised in the
application log when I try and run an office application

Detection of product '{91120000-0030-0000-0000-0000000FF1CE}', feature
'WORDFiles' failed during request for component
'{0638C49D-BB8B-4CD1-B191-051E8F325736}'

Looking at the event log - MSInstaller reports installing all the office
applications successfully.

Any ideas as how to get Office to work?
