Re: Office 2007 and Customization Tool

Hi Andrew,

For Office 2000 through 2003, only volume license copies could create an Office Admin Point from an Office CD, and the ORK Tools to
create transforms (.MST) files needed an Office Admin Point.

The Office Customization Tool behavior is on the same lines. If you have a retail version of the Enterprise set (EnterpriseR.wwww
folder) then the OCT \Admin folder isn't included. I agree that it's not very well documented in http://microsoft.com/office/ork

For OEMs there are separate imaging, deployment tools through the MS System Builder programs.

Hello all.

I have been attempting to use the Office Customization Tool (the replacement
for ORK) in Office 2007 and keep getting the same error time and time again:

Files necessary to run the Office Customization Tool were not found. Run
setup from the installation point of a qualifying product.

I have read post after post and googled it to the end of the web and have
found out that:

such a tool is only available for the Volume Licensed version of Office 2007
Enterprise to deploy using this method. (from
http://blogs.technet.com/caseymck/archive/2007/03/28/deploying-office-2007-w
ith-essentials-2007.aspx)

There is no mention of the prerequisites (except for Windows Installer 3.1)
mentioned anywhere in the technet articles
(http://technet2.microsoft.com/Office/en-us/library/8faae8a0-a12c-4f7b-839c-
24a66a531bb51033.mspx?mfr=true) such as Enterprise with volume licensing,
nor are there any troubleshooting tips (for resolving the error above)

I don't understand why such a tool/feature is only available in the
enterprise version.

For example;

My client buys off the shelf PC's and purchases the OEM version of Office
Professional. I want every computer with Office Professional (or whatever
office version a particular client has) to be configured the same way. The
best way I can see that being accomplished is by creating a *.msp file
(http://technet2.microsoft.com/Office/en-us/library/8faae8a0-a12c-4f7b-839c-
24a66a531bb51033.mspx?mfr=true) and applying it to the Office installation.

Can someone explain to me why the OCT is not available in all versions?>>
