Re: Office 2007 Beta Blocking Install of Office 2007 Trial!

It seems we have no recourse but to do just that even though we are in the
middle of testing Office 2007 for interactions with other software.
That works fine for our test lab environment, where we know we are going to
eat the time.
But we're not going to waste our time/money to bandaid all of the problems
that distributing Office 2007 evals is going to cause. What a wreck of a
product roll-out where those who would like to push the new features of
Office 2007 out to as many customers as possible end up utterly disgusted by
a disastrous new installer architecture.
The developers must have 'inhaled'.

So, I guess you just can't restore that image you made prior to installing the beta, eh?.

After furious head scratching, ilv-m asked:
| It seems more like the Office 2007 RTM installer still never
| progressed any further than the 'Beta' version of the new installer
| architecture since it is so preciously fragile. Would it kill
| Microsoft to release an update that simply takes care of their stupid
| mess in this area? Why defend them on the inexcusable?
|
| Beta is supposed to mean 'almost ready', not 'watch out, you might
| just poison your system and cripple it'. That is what we would expect
| from Alpha-test or pre-alpha software. In this case
| Microsoft Beta = potential destruction, pre-Alpha
| Microsoft RTM = Beta for the rest of the industry.
| Post SP2 = release-safe and free of liability to integrators
|
| Even if only test systems are involved, we still don't expect to have
| to nuke them and start over just because Microsoft's programmers
| decided to get lazy or their marketing/management people got so crazy
| that they pushed yet another half-baked installation architecture out
| the door too soon. Please explain how you can or anyone at Microsoft
| can justify their RTM installer not taking care of this stupid issue
| rather than just cleaning it up! Since they are DETECTING the
| problem, they ought to also be CORRECTING the problem, not just
| aborting!

||| I Patrick,
|||
||| I had the same problem, and after wasting a lot of time working on
||| the problem, and getting no help from Microsoft, I went into system
||| tools and did a restore to the system back to prior to the Beta
||| install.. I am very disappointed that Microsoft does not have the
||| old files/fragments removed during the 2007 install. It's pretty
||| evident that Microsoft did not do the proper pre-release testing
