Re: Office 2007 install fails with a setup cannot continue message

Bob

I've uninstalled OneCare and tried yet another download - still same abort as soon as Setup tries. There is still no log file.

I am at the point where I am going back to Windows XP and Office 2003.

Hi Terry,

Is Onecare shutdown when you're doing the install?
Have you turned on/off any of the Vista 'features' for protecting installs?

If you extract the download Office 2007 RTM files to a folder on your hard drive can you install from there (FWIW, it took three
downloads before I got one that had the MD5 hash correct) <g>.

Using %temp% in Start=>Run (or whatever you want to call the 'button' in Vista <g> should take you to the directory for any log
files.

Hi Millie

Likewise, I found nothing relevant there. I stress that this is a CLEAN
install of Vista Ultimate on a freshly formatted HDD, so there can be no
traces of any beta installation of either Vista or Office 2007.

The only extra information I have found that may be pertinent is that I have
a folder called Config.msi has been made in the root of C: drive (almost
certainly by Office 2007 setup) and it is completely empty.

I am sure this has to be a Bug. It looks like the beta site is now closed
for bugs - though I am not sure if this is an Office or Vista bug anyway.
