Re: Word: Command cannot be performed

Okay, then it's possible that the Norton Office Plugin is still registered in Windows, even if you uninstalled Norton. Search for the OFFICEAV.DLL file on your system (include hidden and system files/folders) and note the directory path where it is located. Close all open applications. From Windows, click on Start | Run. In the Open dialog box, type the command (including quotes):

Regsvr32 -U "C:\<path>\OfficeAV.dll"

Replace <path> with the directory path for your OfficeAV.dll file. Click on OK. You only have to run this command once (not every time you restart your computer). You should get the message: "DllUnregisterServer in C:\<path>\OfficeAV.dll succeeded."

If you're using Symantec/Norton AntiVirus, try disabling the Office Plugin that comes with it. See http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=329820 "How to use Office programs with the Norton AntiVirus Office plug-in" for more information.

When I try to open a word doc, the windows installer pops up for a second followed by the dialog, "Command cannot be performed... a dialog box is open". When I click ok things proceed as they should. I've already reinstalled and repaired, etc... How can I get rid of this nuisance?
I running XPpro/sp2 + Office2003.
